Professor of the National Taiwan University gives a series of lectures at IGPT for employees of KFU
Mr. Hongchun Li, Doctor of Geology, Professor of the Department of Geology of the National Taiwan University, Director of the NTU AMS Laboratory, visited the Institute of Geology and Petroleum Technologies of Kazan Federal University.
On August 4, at the international scientific and practical conference on petroleum hydrogeology and geochemistry “Practice GeoChemistry 2022”, Mr. Hongchun Li reported on the Scanning XRF and ICP OES analyses of elemental contents in sediment cores and their applications.
On August 8-9, the professor delivered lectures for KFU employees on Accelerator Mass Spectrometry (AMS) Dating and 210 Pb and 137 Cs dating.
“My research interests are geochronological dating (14С, 230Th/U, 210Pb, etc.), stable isotope studies, geochemistry,” explains Hongchun Li. “Major research projects include the use of lacustrine and marine sediment cores, stalagmites, peat profiles, tree rings and corals to reconstruct paleoclimate and environmental changes during the Holocene and late Pleistocene.”
IGPT KFU has been closely cooperating with the National Taiwan University in the research area for a long time.
“We send him samples for radiocarbon dating in order to understand the age of the studied objects,” says Dilyara Kuzina, senior researcher at the Research Laboratory of Paleoclimatology, Paleoecology and Paleomagnetism, IGPT. – Last year, we won a joint 3-year project of the Russian Science Foundation and invited the professor to our university to show our laboratory equipment, lake samples and discuss future plans. As part of his visit, we asked him to give lectures to our employees, as Hongchun Li is a high-level professional.”
