The Institute of Geology and Petroleum Technologies of Kazan Federal University hosted an Open Doors Day for schoolchildren and their parents
On February 26, the Institute of Geology and Petroleum Technologies of Kazan Federal University hosted an Open Doors Day, which was attended by schoolchildren of grades 9-11.
The meeting has been opened in the assembly hall of the IGPT, where the schoolchildren were greeted by Danis Karlovich Nurgaliyev, Vice-Rector for Petroleum Technologies, Environmental Management and Earth Sciences, Director of the Institute of Geology and Petroleum Technologies of Kazan Federal University. Danis Karlovich told the schoolchildren about the history of the IGPT (former Faculty of Geology) and how he decided to become a geophysicist in his youth.
“After graduating from school, I came to Kazan with the aim of enrolling in the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics, but I saw a group of Geophysics specialty applicants. As I was then explained, “it’s the same physics, only in the fresh air.” As a result, I entered the Faculty of Geology (now IGPT), then continued my postgraduate studies and stayed to work at KFU, which I never regretted. We have a motto at the institute: “We graduate successful and happy people.” Successful because the professions of a geologist, geophysicist, reservoir engineer, geochemist are highly paid, and most importantly, in demand. And usually, people of these professions occupy high positions in good companies, have high salaries, and all other benefits, respectively! These people are happy because they have an interesting profession related to travel, discoveries, research of natural objects,” said Danis Karlovich.

Then, the future applicants received their “classbook” and felt like real students, having gone to lectures on General Geology, Petroleum Engineering, Paleontology, Geophysics, and Geoinformation Technologies. Classes for the guests were held by the teachers of the Institute.
“ My sister studied at IGPT in Petroleum Engineering, so I want to enter KFU, but I’m considering Geodesy, because I’m studying this direction a little,” says a student of school No. 12 Aidar Giniatullin .
“ I came to the Open Doors Day from Bugulma,” says a student of Lyceum No. 2 Emil Khazeev. I got acquainted with IGPT KFU from your teachers who visited our lyceum with a presentation. Today, having received answers to all questions about the admission campaign, I was convinced that I want to enter this particular institute for Geophysics.
After classes, the students visited the laboratories, the 3D GEO Center, Museum of the Institute of Geology, which displays collections of minerals, meteorites, gems, as well as a mammoth skeleton and the third multimedia globe in Russia.
