KFU scientists presented their developments in the field of heavy oil production in Kuwait
The scientists of the Kazan Federal University presented their developments at one of the largest conferences on the problems of heavy oil production in Kuwait. Mikhail Varfolomeyev, the head of the Department of Development and Operation of Hard-to-Recover Hydrocarbon Reservoir of the Institute of Geology and Petroleum Technologies and Chandong Yuan, senior research scientist of the research laboratory “Rheological and Thermochemical Research” of KFU, made presentations at ”SPE International Herald Oil Conference and Exhibition”. More than 1000 experts and scientists in the field of heavy oil production from around the world took part in the conference. “Cost Optimisation: The Key to Unlocking Heavy Oil Success” was the main topic of the conference. The event was made possible through the support of the international Society of Petroleum Engineers and a number of major oil companies in Kuwait.
The reports of Kazan Federal University researchers, which caught the keen interest of the colleagues, covered the topics: the development of heavy oils using the steam and gravity drainage method (SAGD method) and the development of new catalysts and methods for testing them for intra-layer combustion technology. The monitoring method for the development by the SAGD method created jointly by the KFU and PAO TATNEFT is actively being discussed by researchers all over the world. The participants of the conference expressed the view that this technology has great prospects for application not only in Russia, but also abroad, including the Middle East region and will be on the rise for years to come.
