Cupet specialists, soon-to-be master’s students, visited IGPT of KFU
A group of 18 specialists of the state oil company of Cuba visited the Institute of Geology and Petroleum Technologies (IGPT) of Kazan Federal University. After finishing one-year preparatory courses, Cupet employees will start the master’s program at KFU. The young professionals are expected to major in oil and gas business. They will take up one-year Russian language courses, after finishing the course, the program “Development of hard-to-recover and unconventional hydrocarbon deposits” is to be covered by the Cuban specialists.
The project upon the terms and conditions of intergovernmental agreement is being implemented for the second time. In the past year a group of 16 Cupet specialists successfully completed their studies at Kazan Federal University on the program “Modern technologies for the exploration and development of high-viscosity oil.”
Ildus Chukmarov, Deputy Director for Marketing of the Institute of Geology and Petroleum Technologies of Kazan Federal University and Director of the Center for Advanced Training, Quality Management and Marketing, greeted the Cuban colleagues and told them about the history of Kazan University, its geological school and research projects.
The guests visited the geological museum and laboratories of the Institute.
“The main task that we set ourselves, while improving the skills of CUPET employees, is to ensure the energy independence of friendly Cuba. KFU has already successfully implemented a large number of projects jointly with partner companies.”–said the director.
The partnership between Kazan University and CUPET began with providing of advanced training courses for Cupet specialists in the field of geological and hydrodynamic models of oil deposits by the Center for Advanced Training, Quality Management and Marketing of IGPT of KFU. Later, in 2016, a group of specialists of the company was admitted to two-year master’s program on oil and gas business, on completion of which they were awarded Diplomas of KFU. As early as in 2018 the Center for Advanced Training, Quality Management and Marketing of IGPT concluded the major contract on provision of advanced training services of 200 managers and specialists of a foreign enterprise upon ten different programs (140 of them have already been trained).
The result of this work was the decision of Cupet management to conclude a new contract for 2020 and 2021. Ildus Chukmarov regularly takes part in the events related to the development of Russian-Cuban relations at various levels, including the Embassy of Cuba and the Russian Ministry of Education and Science. A delegation of the CEINPET Research Petroleum Center headed by the General Director visited KFU and took part in a meeting with the largest enterprises of the Russian oil and gas industry held in KFU . In addition, the technologies of scientists of “Ekoneft” research center of KFU is used in the development of the Boka de Haruko field in Cuba.
“The Institute of Geology and Petroleum Technologies of Kazan Federal University has great potential in the search and exploration of hydrocarbon deposits, as well as technologies for enhancing oil recovery in Cuban fields. And in this direction, together with university partners and scientists of the CEINPET Research Petroleum Center, it is planned to expand cooperation in 2020, ”said Danis Nurgaliev, the Vice-rector for Research and Director of IGPT.
