IGPT KFU and CUPET (Cuba) will expand cooperation in educational and research areas

Mario Miranda, Head of training and development of the Cuban company CUPET, and Tania Perez, Director of human resources at CUPET, paid a two-day visit to the Institute of Geology and Petroleum Technologies of Kazan Federal University.

It should be noted that IGPT has long-standing friendly relations with the Cuban oil company CUPET. To date, the Institute cooperates with CUPET in all areas. In 2018-2019, CdoGEO successfully implemented a major contract for the provision of professional development services for two hundred managers and specialists of the foreign enterprise in ten different programs. The result of this work was the decision of the CUPET management to conclude a new contract for future years and implement 16 advanced training programs.

In addition, cooperation is ongoing in student education: from 2018 to 2022, IGPT graduated two groups of masters from among CUPET specialists .

Also, within the framework of the World-Class Science Center (WCRC) , KFU scientists, together with specialists from Zarubezhneft JSC, continue to develop technologies for the production of extra- viscous oil at the Boca de Jaruco field.

The current visit was devoted to discussing a number of promising and current issues of expanding cooperation. The negotiations were held by the Deputy Director of the IGPT KFU for Marketing, Director of the Center for Advanced Training, Quality Management and Marketing (CdoGEO) Ildus Chukmarov .

We continue to work on the implementation of advanced training courses for specialists from the oil and gas company CUPET ,” says Ildus Adgamovich . In November, the third program this year is planned to be held jointly with Bashneftegeofizika JSC. In total, 12 programs remain to be implemented under the contract. The guests also discussed the visit to Kazan of CUPET General Director Nestor Perez Franco and Energy Minister Nicolas Arronte Cruz. Moreover, we discussed the admission of nine CUPET specialists to study at the IGPT “Petroleum Engineering” master’s program. This will be the third group of Cuban master students. During the visit, letters were prepared with new proposals for the implementation of joint projects, which were submitted to the General Director of CUPET. We are ready to continue our cooperation with CUPET and help them produce more oil at the lowest cost to ensure the full energy independence of Cuba.”

During the visit, Mario Miranda and Tania Perez met with Vice-Rector for Petroleum Technologies, Environmental Management and Earth Sciences, Director of the Institute of Geology and Petroleum Technologies of Kazan Federal University Danis Nurgaliev. During the conversation, issues of further cooperation were discussed, after which the guests were shown the laboratory for physical modeling of enhanced oil recovery methods, where the Combustion Pipe is located – a unique installation designed to simulate and study the processes of oil displacement by various methods of enhanced oil recovery (steam, polymers, under the influence of chemistry, in situ combustion), as well as assessing their applicability in the field.

As part of their visit to IGPT, the guests met Anatoly Artemiev, a geophysicist and supervisor, who worked most of his life in the field of marine seismic on research vessels in the Indian, Atlantic, Pacific and Arctic Oceans, in the Norwegian, Northern, Black, Okhotsk, the Barents Seas. By the way, Anatoly Artemiev is a 1977 graduate of the Faculty of Geology (now IGPT).

Anatoly Artemyev developed unique courses on marine seismic exploration for CdoGEO and on September 16 he gave a lecture for students of the Institute of Geotechnical Engineering of KFU. Mario Miranda and Tania Perez promised to consider a proposal for cooperation in the field of marine seismic exploration.
