IGPT KFU has agreed to expand cooperation with LLC Beicip-GeoTechnologies
A two-day visit to the Institute of Geology and Petroleum Technologies of Kazan Federal University was made by a delegation of Beicip-GeoTechnologies LLC (Russia), a subsidiary of Beicip-Franlab (France). The delegation included General Director of LLC “Beicip-GeoTechnologies” Maria Saint-Germes, Deputy General Director for Commercial Affairs Olga Emelianenko, Lead Engineer for the Development and Modeling of Oil Fields Rinat Garifullin and Specialist in Basin Modeling Yekaterina Kislitsina.
During the visit, the guests were accompanied by Vice-Rector for Oil and Gas Technologies, Director of the Institute of Geology and Petroleum Technologies Danis Nurgaliev, Deputy Director for Marketing, Director of the Center for Advanced Training, Quality Management and Marketing (CdoGEO) Ildus Chukmarov and Senior Lecturer at the Department of Hard-To-Recover Hydrocarbons Development and Operation IGPT KFU Igor Ognev.
The meeting was organized by CdoGEO. Its goal was to discuss the possibilities of expanding cooperation in research and educational areas.
Beicip-Franlab is a leading independent is a leading E&P Consultancy and Software editor with 50 years of experience. The company is part of the IFP Energies Nouvelles group. Beicip-Franlab offers a full range of oil production consulting services and provides its clients with best-in-class consulting and software. The company has practical experience in most of the oil and gas provinces and already serves over 1000 clients among the largest national, international and independent oil companies.
The acquaintance with the Kazan Federal University began in the Museum of History of Kazan University, where the representatives of LLC “Beicip-Geotechnologies” were able to see the main milestones in the development of the university.
The university is proud not only of its past, but also of its present. KFU today has modern technical equipment, outstanding scientists and powerful laboratories, which were demonstrated to the company’s representatives.
One of the promising areas of IGPT’s work is EOR. These studies are carried out by scientists from the Research Laboratory “Rheological and Thermochemical Research” of the Alexander Butlerov Institute of Chemistry. Here, the guests were shown equipment that allows a complete analysis of oil and gas samples behavior in a wide range of temperatures (from -170 to +1500ºС) and pressures (from 0.01 to 500 bar). The laboratory has developed and constructed unique pilot units for testing and optimizing thermal EOR methods: combustion pipes, steam injection units, which have no analogues in the world.
Of course, the main complex of research in the field of geology and petroleum engineering is carried out in the laboratories of IGPT. Here representatives of LLC Beicip-GeoTechnologies were shown the laboratory of isotope and elemental analysis, where KFU employees are engaged in scientific activities in the field of isotopic geochemistry, in particular oil and gas geochemistry, chemostratigraphy and isotope geochronology. In the laboratory of X-ray computed tomography, the guests were shown a nanofocus research X-ray system for computed tomography. In the laboratory, scientists perform pore-scale modeling, industrial defectoscopy, and study the structures of porosity and fracturing.
The guests were especially impressed by the 3D GEO Center, where students learn to build geological models and calculate the reservoir properties. At the same time, the equipment of the Center allows for 3D visualization of geophysical data.
CdoGEO and LLC “Beicip-Geotechnologies” plan to develop cooperation in the creation of joint educational video lectures for students and oil and gas industry professionals. In this regard, the partners visited the Incubator of Distance Educational Projects of IGPT KFU, where it is possible to create content for CdoGEO YouTube channel and Digital Educational Resources (DER). In the Incubator, under the guidance of a team of specialists (operators and editors), educational video lectures are recorded with the participation of our teachers and partners.
During the excursion, the guests visited IGPT assembly hall, where Ildus Chukmarov represented the achievements of CdoGEO and dwelled on the discussion of joint plans in more detail. According to the head of the Center for Advanced Training, we can organize conferences on basin modeling with leading consulting companies.
“IGPT KFU has been cooperating for several years with IFPEN, the parent company of Beicip-Franlab, with which we have implemented a departmental target program – training of specialists from PJSC TATNEFT and LLC TNG-Group at the IFP Energies nouvelles (IFPEN). – noted Ildus Chukmarov. – In addition, IGPT KFU uses academic licenses of Beicip-Franlab for training bachelors and masters. During the meeting, we demonstrated the capabilities of both the Institute and CdoGEO and are planning to expand cooperation in all areas of activity.”
“It is a great honor for us to cooperate with KFU, the one of the most advanced universities in the world”, says Maria Saint-Germès. “In two days we looked at the laboratories and technical equipment of the Institute, saw scientists who are passionate about research and are eager to make an important contribution to the development of science. It will be interesting for us to develop cooperation in the following areas: basin modeling, geochemistry, enhanced oil recovery (chemical and thermal methods). We also want to integrate KFU scientific developments into our production projects in order to improve the quality of calibration and, as a result, our forecasts. The second cluster of cooperation is educational. I think we could jointly create educational video lectures both for students and for commercial purposes for specialists from oil and gas companies.”
At the end of the meeting, Danis Nurgaliev summed up the results of the visit.
“Beicip-Franlab is a leader in software development, basin modeling and research promising for Russia,” said Danis Karlovich. During the meeting, colleagues appreciated the high level of our developments and are ready to conduct research with IGPT KFU and enter joint tenders. Another area in which it is planned to expand cooperation is education. The developed methods of Beicip-GeoTechnologies should be promoted in the educational space for students and specialists. These techniques should be widely used in oilfield service companies. Therefore, we agreed that we will jointly teach people how to use software.”
