Kazan Federal University provided training of Cuban oil workers on a unique program in Havana
A group of 20 managers and specialists of Cupet oil company have completed an advanced training program provided by the Center for Advanced Training, Quality Management and Marketing of the Institute of Geology and Petroleum Technologies in Havana.
The advanced training program “Development and monitoring of extra-viscous oil production by thermal methods” was the fourth project implemented according to the contract of Kazan Federal University with Tecnomatica.
“This course is a unique educational product, as it combines the latest developments of Kazan Federal University researchers and the vast experience of production specialists, partners of our Center. Such a combination was highly appreciated by the representatives of the Cuban state oil company during their last visit to KFU”, said Ildus Chukmarov, Deputy Director of IGPT, Director of the Center for Advanced Training, Quality Management and Marketing.
The program was supervised by Mikhail Varfolomeyev, the head of the Department of Development and Operation of Hard-to-Recover Hydrocarbon Reservoir of the IGPT, Ecooil research area manager, and Ayrat Gabbasov, the leading specialist of one of Russia’s largest oil-producing companies.
Within the framework of the advanced training program modern developments related to thermal effects were presented: methods of in-situ combustion and high-pressure air injection, methods of electrical heating and the use of catalysts for underground refining of heavy oils.
“The main reserves of Cuba are heavy oils, the extraction of which causes problems with its further production and transportation. Therefore, its extracting needs to begin already in the reservoir. It should be noted that Kazan Federal University is one of the leaders in the field of thermal methods investigations. So, pilot projects are already underway on the real fields and will be used in cyclic steam injection for the Boca de Haruco deposit of the Republic of Cuba”, said Mikhail Varfolomeyev.
In his turn, Ayrat Gabbasov told the audience about the thermal-steam effect and its variations, as well as about complex technologies with the use of solvents, and shared his experience in the practical use of the developments for the oil fields of different oil producing companies.
Garcia Marrero José Antonio, Head of the Cupet Development Department, highly appreciated the advances of Kazan Federal University in the field of mining of hard-to-recover reserves, as well as the quality of teaching and the skills of university teachers.
It is also worth noting that Mikhail Varfolomeyev had a meeting with Amilka Fierro Ruiz de Ugarro, the general director of the CEINPET Cuban national oil company Research Center. (who had previously visited Kazan Federal University).
To recap, Kazan Federal University and the Cuban company Tecnomatica (Cupet) had signed an agreement on the provision of advanced training services. Two hundred managers and specialists of the enterprise will be trained upon ten different programs.
