KFU was visited by representatives of Petrolera RN Ltd, Staatsolie Maatschappij Suriname N.V. and SamaraNIPIneft LLC

Representatives of three oil corporations at once visited Kazan Federal University – Petrolera RN Ltd, Staatsolie Maatschappij Suriname N.V., SamaraNIPIneft LLC. The program of the visit began with a museum of the history of KFU, and continued in the format of a business dialogue in one of the meeting rooms of the University.

An official meeting with delegates was opened by Danis Nurgaliev, Vice-Rector for Research and Director of the Institute of Geology and Petroleum Technologies of Kazan Federal University. He drew the attention of those present to periods of dynamic development of the university’s infrastructure – from 1804 to the present. Since its foundation, a number of research areas and schools have been formed at Kazan University, which continue to develop today. The special pride of KFU is the outstanding scientific discoveries of university researchers, which attracted the attention of foreign experts.

The main concept of the work and development of one of the key areas of the university was presented by Mikhail Varfolomeev, head of the Ecooil priority area of Kazan Federal University.  All scientific developments of scientists are focused on the generation, concentration and global distribution of competencies in the field of exploration, production, processing, oil and gas chemistry of unconventional hydrocarbon reserves. Also, as part of his report, Mikhail Varfolomeev introduced the main trends of the modern market in the oil and gas industry, the global challenges of education, the mission and the goals of creating a priority direction.

As part of its activities, this structure has successfully expanded business contacts, establishing promising cooperation, and already has several significant achievements. Moreover, the transfer of scientists of this priority area to production is being actively implemented. A striking example of the positive result of the partnership with major oil corporations and educational institutions is the opening of a unique KFU master’s program in conjunction with the Imperial College of London, PJSC Rosneft and British Petroleum. Details of the Petroleum Engineering double diploma program were also announced to guests of KFU. Recall from this year, the first participants in the program will be students, teachers and leading specialists of companies whose research interests lie in the field of oil production. The program’s customers are subsidiaries of Rosneft. It is worth noting that already on August 6 an interview will be held with representatives of these companies, which is the second stage of admission to the magistracy.

The topic of the meeting, which related to the development of technologies in the field of oil development, was continued by colleagues from Petrolera RN Ltd (Venezuela), Staatsolie Maatschappij Suriname N.V., as well as SamaraNIPIneft LLC. Experts told colleagues from Kazan University about the scientific and technical support of the production production cycle, implemented by these corporations.

The program of the visit ended with a round table “Problems and solutions for the use of thermal EORs.” Within the framework of the meeting, questions were raised of the development of Kazan University experience in the field of underground refinement of catalysts, and the possibility of implementing the Ecooil priority technologies at the fields of these companies was also considered.

Representatives of delegations made several initiative proposals. The main ones involve cooperation in educational activities in the framework of advanced training, as well as the use of processing technologies directly in the reservoir, i.e. changes in the physicochemical properties of oil directly underground. Its production requires unconventional technologies, special equipment, scarce reagents and materials, and most importantly, the experience of Kazan colleagues, which will be considered and used by major companies in the near future.
