The IGPT KFU presented its developments in the field of catalytic upgrading of high-viscosity oil at the Russian congress “Roskataliz”
On September 22, at the Kazan Federal University, within the framework of the IV Russian Congress on Catalysis “Roskataliz”, a round table was held on the topic “Catalysis in the production and refining of heavy oil and unconventional oil”.
The event was moderated by Danis Nurgaliev, Vice-Rector for Petroleum Technologies, Environmental Management and Earth Sciences, Candidate of Chemical Sciences Mikhail Varfolomeev, Head of the Department of Hard-To-Recover Hydrocarbons Development and Operation of the Institute of Geology and Petroleum Technologies of the Kazan Federal University, Candidate of Chemical Sciences Maxim Kazakov (Institute of Catalysis SB RAS, Novosibirsk), Dmitry Shlyapin (Center for Chemical Technologies, IC SB RAS, Omsk).
The round table was devoted to several issues. These are modern achievements in the field of catalytic technologies for the extraction and refining of heavy and unconventional oil; experience of Russian oil companies in the development of production and refining of heavy oil; the future of catalytic technologies for refining heavy and unconventional oil in the context of energy transition.

Ildus Chukmarov, Deputy Director of IGPT for Marketing, Director of the Center for Advanced Training, Quality Management and Marketing (CdoGEO), notes that CdoGEO has long been implementing FVE programs in the field of enhanced oil recovery. So, in 2018-2019, CdoGEO successfully implemented a contract for the provision of advanced training services for two hundred managers and specialists of the state oil company CUPET under 11 different programs. The result of this work was the decision of the CUPET management to conclude a new contract for 2022 and 2023 and implement 15 professional development programs. Today at IGPT KFU, 18 specialists of CUPET are studying on a Master’s degree Program “Hard-To-Recover and Unconventional Reservoirs Development”.
“CdoGEO IGPT KFU is already implementing advanced training programs in the field of enhanced oil recovery methods,” says Ildus Adgamovich. “Within the framework of the World-class Scientific Center “Rational Development of the Planet’s Liquid Hydrocarbon Reserves”, together with the Department of Hard-To-Recover Hydrocarbons Development and Operation, the following programs have been developed: “Application of catalysts for the production of high-viscosity oils”, “SAGD technology for the production of high-viscosity oils”. 18 specialists of CUPET will undergo advanced training in these areas”.
