Employees of the state oil company of Cuba became master’s students of IGPT KFU

19 specialists from the state oil company of Cuba have started their master’s studies at the Institute of Geology and Petroleum Technologies of Kazan Federal University.

Earlier, the undergraduates studied Russian for one year at the KFU Preparatory school for international students. The management of IGPT constantly kept in touch with them, prepared excursions and introduced them to the Institute.  And today they have joined the ranks of IGPT students. A special project implemented under an intergovernmental agreement commissioned by the Cuban state oil company (CUPET) is to train young specialists in the field of “Petroleum Engineering”. The Cuban colleagues will master the two-year master’s program “Development of hard-to-recover and unconventional hydrocarbon deposits.”

Due to the fact that Cuban undergraduates are temporarily isolated in the Universiade Village, a welcoming speech for them sounded online. Ildus Chukmarov, Deputy Director for Marketing, IGPT, Director of the Center for Advanced Training, Quality Management and Marketing, curator of the Cuban group and cooperation with CUPET from KFU, gave them an introductory lesson, during which he spoke about the accommodation in the Universiade Village, about their studies at IGPT and also introduced them to the directorate and the department for the development and operation of hard-to-recover hydrocarbon fields.

“The goal of the training within the premises of our Institute is first of all to gain you such knowledge and competencies that will allow you to return to your homeland and produce more oil at lower costs, which will lead to complete energy independence of Cuba! I have repeatedly voiced this goal, both to the management of the company and to the Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba at a personal meeting. In addition, while you are our students, we will help you in everything, try to make your stay in Kazan as fruitful and comfortable as possible. So in the summer we were able to allocate financial assistance for you from the funds of the Ecology-Geology-Oil Fund. We hope that soon you will have the opportunity to work in our laboratories as well,” said Ildus Adgamovich.

Florida Fazlyeva, Deputy Director for Educational Activities of IGPT, noted that distance learning for Cuban undergraduates will take only two weeks, and will be devoted to the study of the Russian language under the guidance of teachers from the Institute of Philology and Intercultural Communication of the Kazan Federal University with a gradual increase in the study of core disciplines. Florida Afruzovna also noted that Cuban students will soon begin practical training within the premises of IGPT.

The project is being implemented for the second time: in 2018, 16 specialists of CUPET successfully completed their master’s studies in the field of “Petroleum Engineering” at IGPT KFU. It should be noted that graduates of the master’s program have already managed to undergo advanced training under the contract between CATQMM and CUPET.

Today IGPT KFU cooperates with the state oil company of Cuba in all directions. In 2018-2019, the Center for Advanced Training, Quality Management and Marketing of IGPT KFU successfully implemented a large contract for the provision of advanced training services for two hundred managers and specialists of the foreign enterprise in ten different programs. This is the largest international agreement in the history of Kazan Federal University in the field of advanced trainings.  The result of this work was the decision of the Cupet management to conclude a new contract for 2021 and 2022 and implement 16 advanced training programs.

IGPT closely cooperates with the company, including the research area. Last year, a delegation of the CEINPET which employs some of the undergraduates, led by General Director Amilcar Fierro Ruiz de Ugarrio, visited KFU. Soon an Agreement on cooperation between KFU and CEINPET will be signed.
