CdoGEO KFU will increase the number of ongoing training programs for employees of the Cuban oil company CUPET, including a course on “The use of catalysts for the production of high-viscosity oil”

On February 23, the Center for Advanced Training, Quality Management and Marketing (CdoGEO) of the Institute of Geology and Petroleum Technologies of Kazan Federal University traditionally received a working visit from the head of training and development of the Cuban company CUPET, Mario Miranda, and the Director of Human Resources for CUPET, Tania Perez.

This meeting is a continuation of our fruitful cooperation with CUPET, for which we implemented 14 advanced training programs, 3 of which in 2022,” says Ildus Chukmarov, Deputy Director of IGPT for Marketing, Director of the Center for Advanced Training, Quality Management and Marketing (CdoGEO). “A total of 267 CUPET managers and specialists completed training at CdoGEO. We plan to increase the number of advanced training programs next year to five: “Technologies for the production of hard-to-recover oil at oilfields”, “The use of catalysts for the production of high-viscosity oil”, “Advanced technologies for managing business in the field of oil and gas. Transactional management”, “Non-seismic methods for hydrocarbon deposits prospecting”, “Seismic data processing technologies”. However, holding a course for us is not a goal in itself, but a tool that will help Cuba increase oil production, reduce costs and ensure the energy independence of the state. To do this, we are ready to involve our best personnel in the implementation of the courses. For example, Irek Mukhamatdinov, laureate of the Russian President’s Prize in Science and Innovation for Young Scientists, will conduct classes on catalysts. Also, our partners from leading Russian oil and gas and service companies, whose technological solutions will certainly be useful for Cuba, take part in the course.”

In 2021, the following three programs were implemented for Cuba: “Tecnología SAGD para extraer petróleo de alta viscosidad”, “Geomecánica (curso avanzado)”, “Investigaciones geólogo-tecnológicas de pozos”. The training took place full-time (two courses in Havana for the company’s specialists and one in Kazan for CUPET executives, within which a 10-day program was developed. The program included round tables with experts and partners, lectures, visits to enterprises).

In addition, in December 2022, CdoGEO organized the visit to Kazan of Freya Gonzalez Nunez, Director of the CEINPET Production Department, and Tais Hernandez Gomez, Chief Specialist of the CEINPET Biotechnology Laboratory. The purpose of the arrival of specialists was to study the technologies and scientific developments of KFU in the field of EOR methods.

Also, within the framework of the World-Class Science Center (WCRC), KFU scientists, together with specialists from Zarubezhneft JSC, continue to develop technologies for the production of extra-viscous oil at the Boca de Jaruco field, where two catalyst injections have been made.

“The courses that were held earlier were of the highest level, so we have full confidence in your choice of teachers and partners. We look forward to expanding cooperation,” concluded Mario Miranda.

Also, during the meeting, the partners handed over a list of challenges facing Cuba’s oil production activities. These challenges will be taken into account at the step of the advanced training courses formation.
