From neural networks to facies analysis: new courses completed at CdoGEO

From October 13th to 17th, the Center for Advanced Training held two specialized advanced training programs: Practical Application of Neural Networks in Geology and Geochemical Analysis of Samples. The training brought together specialists striving to stay at the forefront of technological trends in the oil and gas industry.

The Geochemical Analysis of Samples program was entirely based on practical work in modern laboratories at the Institute of Geology and Petroleum Technologies. The classes were led by Bulat Gareev, Director of the GeoLab Research Center.

“The warm welcome from Ildus Chukmarov, Head of the Center for Advanced Training, the friendliness of our colleagues from the Isotope and Elemental Analysis Laboratory, and their willingness to share experiences and collaborate throughout the training created a favorable atmosphere for productive work,” commented Liliya Pozolotina, Lead Engineer at the Analytical Center of the Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Far Eastern Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences).

“This was the first time we’ve conducted such training, and I was especially excited to share this knowledge with my colleagues. Seeing their eyes light up as they independently conduct complex analyses and gain a deeper understanding of the processes. The practice-oriented format has proven itself to be a success,” said Bulat Gareev. “Implementing advanced training programs in the form of individual internships involving rock and fluid sample analysis has increased interest among our industrial partners,” added Ildus Chukmarov.

The course Practical Application of Neural Networks in Geology was delivered in a hybrid format: some participants studied in person in the classroom, while others connected online via videoconferencing, allowing specialists from different regions to participate. The course was taught by experienced practitioners, including Dmitry Davydov and Radik Akhmetov, experts in digital technologies and artificial intelligence in geology.

“The combination of theoretical and practical lessons was optimally balanced. Given the limited time available, the approach and content of the program allowed for the most effective learning. I express my sincere gratitude to the Center for Advanced Training and its faculty,” commented Ambartsum Dashyan from SamaraNIPIneft LLC.

Yekaterina Zhernovkova, a representative of Gazprom International Limited, is a clear confirmation of the high quality of the CdoGEO’s programs. This was her fourth time studying here.

“Every time I return to your center, I discover something new, and this course was no exception—it was incredibly interesting and useful for my practice. Of all the programs I’ve completed here, this one was one of the most challenging: the abundance of calculations and formulas was a surprise to me. However, it helped me understand the mechanisms of processes that had previously remained behind the scenes,” she shared.

“I’d especially like to highlight the excellent balance of theory and practice, as well as the exceptional professionalism of instructor Boris Platov. Your Center has long been a place I want to study, largely due to the strong faculty and always welcoming atmosphere. One of the courses I took, Seismic Facies Analysis, remains one of my favorites, and I’ve already recommended the current program to my colleagues,” continued Yekaterina.

“Such loyalty and repeated returns to our Center is the most objective assessment of our work. We are grateful to Yekaterina and all our students for their trust, and we strive to continually develop our educational products to meet the most sophisticated needs of enterprises,” concluded Ildus Chukmarov.
